I don't at all claim to have the answers, and you're right - a person will probably have to have a number of tools in the toolbox from here on out... But there are free ways to do it too - DVDFab Decrypter and RipIt4Me (see links above). However, DVD Decrypter also possesses the ability to rip a DVD in ISO mode, which comes in handy from time to time.
