To be more clear, my "Gmail" account is a Google Apps for Education email account. however I am sure about my password and I changed it once but I've got the same error! For some reason Gmail was auto-populating that field with "smtp" and I was of course just leaving it that way because I presumed Gmail knew the default settings...! Check This Out
